Would you like to know why the body begins to react to everyday events the same that it would to a life threatening occurrence ?
Definition- Fight or flight is a post- traumatic stress. It’s a physiological reaction that occurs in response to a perceived harmful event, attack or threat to survival.
Those of us who have higher levels of emotional reactivity may be prone to anxiety and aggression. Stimulation of the cortex by the sympathetic nervous system causes release of hormones into the blood to initiate the fight or flight response.
If we are suddenly confronted with a frightening situation are sympathetic nervous system in response to the information that our brain integrates sends a message to the adrenal medulla which releases information into the blood in short bursts. This is very helpful if our life is in danger to remove us from the situation, but increased levels of stress over long periods of time can be harmful to the entire body because of the extra work this heightened state puts on the entire organism.
